Today is the last day you can share an account on Netflix outside of the home. These are your options

Those who are forewarned are armed. And Netflix, which has been warning for a few weeks, is starting to apply the measures today so we don’t share a single account between multiple households and devices. You can no longer access your content from multiple Apple TVs, iPads, or iPhones.

Starting today, Tuesday, February 21, Netflix will no longer ask you to set a primary location, but will force you to do so. So Today is the day you have to make the decision to pay more or opt out. Still haven’t seen what to do? Well, calm down: we will review everything in a summary so that you can make a decision.

Starting today, what should we do to keep sharing Netflix account?

As of today, Netflix account pricing applicable to Spanish users is as follows. There are no price increases, but there are conditions with additional fees to share the account:

5.99 euros/month (in addition to the “mother account”)

If you want to continue sharing your Netflix account with multiple households, For each additional household you have to pay an extra 5.99 euros. And the number of additional houses you can add is limited by the type of account you’re paying for, with a maximum of two in the case of the premium subscription.

How to check if your home is the primary Netflix location

How is it determined which household is primary and which households are additional? Setting up a “primary location” in your home that defines you as the administrator/responsible for the Netflix account. Starting today, setting this primary location is mandatory. A message similar to the following appears on iPads, Apple TVs, and iPhones:

Message Netflix main site

If you click Set Up Later, Netflix clearly warns you that a primary location will be set automatically. You can’t avoid it, although you always have the option to change it in the service settings:

netflix main site

Any locations that open your Netflix account that are not your main location will be marked as additional locations for which you will have to pay an extra 5.99 euros per month. It is precisely this measure that leads more than one user to decide to unsubscribe from the service and to consider subscriptions to alternative platforms. Precisely we have the arrival in a week of SkyShowtime, a new competitor, with the attraction of a subscription for 2.99 euros per month.

As for the future of Netflix, no one is sure. At the moment, the company has already been forced to reduce prices in Latin America, implying that many people will have to unsubscribe from Netflix want to stop the bleeding. It could be an example of what could happen in Spain.

This is PLEX, the free alternative to Netflix that offers hundreds of movies, series and music without registration

But until that happens (if it does), we’ll have to accept the new terms, or simply unsubscribe if we don’t want to. An era in which no one was unimpressed by price increases seems to be coming to an end: Red lines have been crossed that the public no longer accepts. The bubble has burst.
