That past dawnin Spain) the 2023 Academy Awards took place live, the 95th in its entire history. Last year one of the Apple TV+ co-productions won no more and no less than three Academy Awards with CODAincluding the best picture making history on streaming services.
This year another creation of the Cupertino platform wins an award: the Best Fiction Short Film is for one of the animated films on Apple TV+: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, based on the best-selling book of the same name by acclaimed author Charlie Mackesy. The film brings Mackesy’s whimsical illustrations to life with fully hand-drawn animation.
An upbeat story produced by Jony Ive
The short film tells an Apa story for all ages, about the special friendship of a boy, a mole, a fox and a horse who travel together to the boy’s house. The movie is Produced by Jonay Ive himself and Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson (for “Three billboards on the outskirts”). The original score is by composer Isobel Waller-Bridge and will be performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Geoff Alexander.
Created with exquisite traditional animation, the film is a modern story filled with values and optimism for the whole family.

The short film was released last Christmas and can now be enjoyed on Apple TV+ and although you don’t usually watch this type of film I recommend you give this Mackesy short film a try: it’s a breath of fresh air in this type of film at the same time with a more traditional animation that will surely transport many of you to other times: but with one modern history, with values and optimism – How much is needed right now.
